Sunday Morning At 7AM Palo Alto Baylands/Nesting Black Crowned Night Herons

The trees at the Palo alto Bay lands are filled with Black Crowned Night Herons nesting and raises babies. The youngest ones are brown and white to help camouflage them from predators. They turn black and white as they grow. The warning call that they make when we disturb them is somewhat like a turkey call. They are very full of personality. Oh yes, they are really messy nest builders. I'm glad they aren't my building contractor. Yesterday evening there was quite a wind storm when I was out there, and they were hunkered down in their nests riding out the waves of wind. But this morning when I went out, all seemed well.
